At Benton Community we try to set our
invitational in many ways. One of the most important of those areas is
that of the adjudication of our event. We spend the extra money needed to
make sure the judges we hire are the highest caliber of any in the
country, We feel it's important to find different people every year, as
well as people from all over the country who aren't necessarily familiar
with all the groups that will be competing. Many of the judges have never
seen most of the competing groups, and we feel that helps to ensure the
groups are receiving an impartial and objective evaluation of their
performance.
Our judges have come from every coast and all states in between. We
believe the caliber of one's competition lies squarely in the confidence
the participating directors have in the judging panel. When the directors
and students leave our contest we want them have had an educational and
fun experience. The judges are a big part of this, so we hire the best.
Our critique judges are expressly directed to make the post-performance
time one of excitement and enthusiasm in the critique room. If something
needs to be said that would potentially bring the kids down, those
comments are made privately to the director, not to all the students and
parents. We hope the comments and scores our judges are giving will be
educational and useful.2008 Judges
