Marion High School

What is it?

State Large group contest is a festival held all around the state at different locations. This year we will travel and each group will perform their competition pieces and will receive a rating.  This is similar to solo/ensemble contest, except for the large ensembles are rated as a group. This is a fantastic opportunity to hear choirs and bands from other schools and test your own musicianship.  This is a part of this class and therefore, a part of your grade.  Attendance is absolutely mandatory. This is a year-end summation of what we have learned. This event is listed as a requirement in the course handbook along with concert attendance.

What about athletic practices?

This event is the culmination of the work we have done all year to present to judges how far we have come since the beginning of the year.  You are not only expected to be there, we also happen to need and want all of you with us.  You will be excused from all practices, and/or meets for that day.  Not ALL of you will need to get out of practices, some of you will.  Your coaches will be made aware as to the reason for your absence. This is the most important day of the year for the large ensembles and we will all be there for it.  This date was listed in the calendar of events for the year back in August, so "I have to work" will not be a sufficient excuse, and your letter grade will drop 1 full letters for an unexcused absence.
